See. I don't dabble in the political stuff often because well frankly. All of it pisses me off. I mean jesus.. do the presidential canidates even say what they're going to DO to help the country or are they just too busy boosting their own self-images?
I've been a fan of margaret cho for a long time. I like what she does and I like what she fights for.
But when people twist words for their own benefit and then let their ignorance show trying to retaliate... that annoys me.
If you're going to make fun of an Asian person at least know what ethnicity asian they are. NOT ALL ASIANS ARE CHINESE FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!
I swear..
I'm still leaving the country if Bush is re-elected.
Wanna know what I'm talking about?

So yah. I'm not really pissed about it because well.... people are proving how stupid they really are by saying the things that they're saying. And the lady who put this on her site made a good point that the only retaliation they have is to make fun of her looks ( weight, ethnicity, etc. ) and the fact that she's lgbt friendly. Wow. That's mature.
Anyway... if you have a few moments.. take a gander.

Date: 2004-08-11 03:39 pm (UTC)Now if we did it by counties? Maybe. But the idea of either getting a whole state or not I find rediculous. A person could win something like 70% of the popular vote and lose the election. Regan's "landslide" in 84 came with only 58.97% of the popular vote, yet he took all states but one.

Date: 2004-08-11 07:28 pm (UTC)Like it or hate it, I think it's far more important than a straight popularity vote. And very necessary. Look at it this way...
No two places in the country are exactly alike, so rural voters have different and special needs than urban voters. For example, farming, industrial jobs, rural transportation, schools (since houses are so far apart and thus harder for kids to access quality education), and so on. These are the majority in states like Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Montana, Dakotas, etc...
But they can all simply be ignored if all the candidates have to do is to campaign in the major cities like New York, Chicago, and LA, in order to win the popularity vote. After all, those 3 cities alone easily represent 10% of the population.
So, the electoral system is there to assure that EVERYONE gets some attention time from the politicians, whether you're a white-collar businessman in metro LA or a poor farmer in Des Moines, Iowa.

Date: 2004-08-11 03:58 pm (UTC)At the very least--the very least--I'd like to see the percentage of votes from a state given out according to the percentages of votes each candidate got *IN* that state. But mostly I just hate the whole electoral college system.
