it means they think it will cost you $13,520
to attend school this year, and they expect you to pay for 2,601 of it. That leaves 10,919 in need to be filled by grants and loans.

DVC should tell you what part of that you are gonna get.

So I'm getting $10,919 for school?

[identity profile] 27outs.livejournal.com 2005-06-24 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
that is the maximun they will give/loan you. Most likely it will be about $3k in grants, and the rest in some combination of subsidized and ubsubsidized loans.

But call DVC and they can tell you the breakdown

You'll probably get between $5500 and $10K

you are due to get the thirteen thousand over the whole year-so figure half in the fall, the other half in the spring, and then they slice the semester payments in half too.just make sure you are full time in order to get the whole thing.

she has to subtract her family contribution from that. And some willbe grants (free money) and some will be loans (have to pay back).

Don't forget to take your tax credit, hope tax credit I believe

I thought grants were included into that? My pelgrant and stuff are automatically added into my financial aid. BTW,what is the hope tax credit?

I think you meant: "you are due to be billed the thirteen thousand over the whole year." She'll pay some two-thousand or so, the grant should pay for a good chunk of it once they've figured out the final number of accepted student applicants and the fund left for them, and the rest will be covered by student loans. Have to pay more (percentage-wise) if you don't go to school full time.
