Fluids...

So I'm still not comfortable giving keroppi his fluids.

I can get the needle in but he makes motions like it feels uncomfortable. He doesn't meow or anything so I don't think it hurts.

When when I actually turn on the fluid is when he tries to get away...

And then when I was trying to put on a fresh needle to try again. I Stuck myself in the finger.

The nurse said that it'd be ok if this happens. But that it would just hurt.

And yes. It hurt. A lot.

And I bled. A lot.

So now he still hasn't gotten his fluids. I'm going to have Loren come over tonight and help me because I'm still very freaked out about doing it.

I feel horrible that I can't overcome my fear to help my cat.

as someone who sticks a need into himself twice a day let me tell you a few things:

I assume you are giving him a shot in his stomach, or maybe that scruff. This does not hurt him - you really can't fee lit beyond a second. The slower you go the more it hurts. If the needle just punctures the skin not painfull, but if you hesitate and it rests there and then slowly pushed in hurts like a mother fucker. only your skin has nerves, so get past that quick.

yes, prciking yourself on the finger with a needle hurts like a motherfucker. first time I did it hurt for days afterwards. That is NOT waht the shot feels like. Your fingers are very, very sensitive. your stomach (or, scruff for a cat) are NOT.

He probabbly just doesn't like being held down in one place. Even if it's by someone he knows and trusts.

I am in fact sticking him in the scruff. The tech told me they don't have hardly any nerves there and it doesn't feel any worse than a momma cat picking him up.

Like I said the sticking part doesn't seem to bother him because I do that fast. It's when I turn on the fluids he starts to run....

I dunno. It doesn't help that I'm still really antsy around needles.

I'm not really holding him down. I'm letting him rest on my lap and get cozy and then I'm doing it.

I was warned that cats don't like the sensation of the fluids filling up right under their skin. He just did really well at the vet and I think that maybe it was just cuz he was scared.

And since he's comfortable at home, I think that he's a little more relaxed and feels more.

Loren's going to come over tonight and help me calm down and will keep keroppi calm...

I just feel horrible like I said. He's depending on me and I'm being a pansy.

the actual injection can feel weird. you can feel the liquid going in. It's like a hose, when you put your thumb over part of it and the water sprays out harder. It also feels like for a few seconds a pool under your skin, like the liquid may come back out the little hole. It won't but it feels that way. That feeling must freak him out. Don't know what you can do about it. Maybe give him a treat before and after?
