Yah, so that sucked...
Mar. 25th, 2005 01:09 pmI went to my podiatry appointment today at Kaiser.
I went in and the nurse put me in this chair thing. She then looked at my toe and said.. " Wow.. How long have you had that?! "
Me: Uhm... 2 years...
Her: " Man... that's not good! "
So then the doctor comes in. And I don't know what it is but every podiatrist I've ever had has been a totally hotty :)
He took a look a my toe and was like.. " Wow... That's pretty bad. I'd love to get a picture of that... "
Me: Hahhhahaha :)
Him: I'll be back in a minute.
So he leaves and a few minutes later the nurse comes in wheeling in a tray of sharp, scary surgical tools.
A few seconds later the doctor comes in with, and I shit you not, a digital camera.
Me: " Dood. I thought you were joking! You actually want to take a picture!! "
Him: " Yes! This is fascinating. I want to show it to other doctors as an example. "
So I go into my " I'm scared of needles, let me tell you the horror of my blood draw the other day " story.
He thanks me for warning him but tells me that I have no choice. He has to numb it.
He explains to me how many needle pricks it'll take and what they'll feel like.
I start freaking out. He says he's going to freeze the area. ( Which is bullshit, That freeze stuff doesn't help for crap! )
They tilt me back and he starts with the freeze stuff and begins injecting my toe and the area around it.
I started screaming " OW!" Over and over. It was the most horrible pain! I was crying and hyperventalating.
Suddenly, I felt it. I was going to pass out. So I asked for some water in between wails.
The nurse got me some and he had finished. I was trying to calm down but it was getting harder and harder to keep from fainting. He told me to relax. Told me to take deep breaths. Told me to think of a place that wasn't where I currently was.
Then he went to work on my foot. First he cut the nail to what it should be normally. Then he took a pair of plier lookin things and pulled out the ingrown part. He bandaged it up and put a funky lookin post-op shoe on me.
After it was over he told me to get x-rayed to make sure the bone in my toe hadn't deformed from the tissue building up against it.
So the x-rays showed nothing wrong. And I have spent the remainder of the day limping around.
Now here's the best part. So my co-worker has been going through some stuff in his personal life and spent all night drinking last night. He didn't drink today but was still drunk.
So they sent him home. And I'm the only one after 5. So that means if he doesn't sober up and come back, I have to stay here with my bad foot. But luckily Loren has agreed to come over tonight and take care of me :)
Welp.. Yet another fun medical story from Jessica.
