Feb. 21st, 2005 03:14 pmYa know..
Last Spring at DVC I got put in the paper for an article on www.ratemyprofessors.com and other professor rating sites.
I had been quoted essentially saying that while I think it's good the sites are there, that students shouldn't put all their faith in other people's experiences and should understand that everyone is going to have their own experience in the class. Sort of like when you refuse to see a movie based on someone else's opinions.
Now.
I have an English teacher. Her name is Lisa Orta. And while I think she does a good job as a teacher. She's got horrible people skills. She treats the students like they're incompetant. Humiliates them in front of the class. She threw a kid out of the class last week.
This is pretty much a first year english class called Intro to College Reading. So most of the students are young or fresh out of high school.
I think she takes things like someone not having homework or coming in late to class, wayyyyyyyy too personally.
In college, it's a student's choice to succeed or fail. To be on time or late. To have homework or not. It's NOT a teacher's job to chew them out in front of class for being late or for not having an assignment.
So just for kicks, I went to the www.ratemyprofessors.com site. Oh. Look at that. Everyone basically stated how mean she is and how she humiliates the students in front of the class.
And here I thought I might have actually been alone on this one.
Funny that.
